Programs

Program A is an exchange program through which UMAP participating institutions send and receive up to two students with tuition waivers each semester.

Program B is a negotiated bilateral exchange between two institutions that have agreed to exchange more than two students per semester.

Programs A and B follow a timeline that has two application cycles. Programs that are open for application only during the early or First application cycle are marked with .

Programs that are open for application only during the late or Second application cycle are marked with .

Programs that are open for application during both early/late or First and Second application cycles are marked with .

Program C consists of short-term programs of one to eight-weeks, for which tuition may be charged.

Virtual Programs are offered entirely online and may include both short-term and semester-long programs.

SWU Academic Program

Showa Women's University

Setagaya, Japan
This program is designed for undergraduate and graduate students who are currently studying outside Japan, and who wish to take courses in Japanese offered by our 14 departments. Students can learn about subjects in which they are interested and also experience studying in actual Japanese university classes with other SWU students. The program is offered in both Fall and Spring semesters (15 weeks each), and students may study for either 1 or 2 semesters.

SWU Intensive Japanese Language Program

Showa Women's University

Setagaya, Japan
This program is designed for undergraduate and graduate students who are currently studying outside Japan and wish to improve their Japanese language skills. Besides studying in classes, students also have chances to immerse themselves in language experiences through off-campus activities interacting with Japanese students. The program offers 5 Japanese language courses specially designed for semester non-degree students. Students may also take up to 2 liberal arts courses of their choice, either in English or Japanese, depending on their language level. *Note: Due to limitations on class size and required Japanese proficiency level, students may not be able to enroll in all the courses they choose. The program is offered in both the fall and spring semesters (15 weeks each). Students who have sufficient Japanese proficiency by the end of the Intensive Japanese Language Program is eligible to register for the “SWU Academic Program” in the following semester.
