Program Description The Universidad del Magdalena is a public departmental institution located in Santa Marta, capital of the Magdalena department, Colombia. Founded in 1962, it has one of the largest campuses in the region and has become a regional and national benchmark for its commitment to academic excellence, social inclusion, research, and internationalization. It is also the only university in Latin America internationally accredited as an Engaged University, a recognition that highlights its high quality and positive impact on the territories it serves. With a green, open, and vibrant campus, the University offers an ideal environment for interdisciplinary learning, innovation, and the creation of solutions to the challenges of the present and the future. Its strategic location allows students and researchers to interact directly with unique ecosystems such as the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta, the Magdalena River, and Tayrona National Natural Park, as well as with communities that preserve ancestral knowledge. The Universidad del Magdalena fosters encounters between science, culture, and territory, promoting educational experiences that integrate academic knowledge with local wisdom. With a strong commitment to sustainability, equity, and social development, it opens its doors to the world so that students, researchers, and professors may engage in a transformative learning experience in the heart of the Colombian Caribbean. UMAP exchange students immerse themselves in Colombian Culture by taking university classes with local students. Exchange students can participate in sports teams and cultural events.
